Why will the activities of Kiteboarding and Wingfoiling change your life? There are 5 various reasons; fun/entertainment, curiosity/challenge/accomplishment, adventure, health/exercise, travel. These elements are what make Kiteboarding and Wingfoiling very attractive to people leading them to take a lesson and learn. When these principles are increased in one’s life, their well-being improves as efforts are made to experience these positive sensations more often. There may very well be more reasons that motivate enthusiasts to get on the water but we’re going to discuss these 5 main ones.
1. Fun!
Who doesn’t want to have fun? Who doesn’t want to be entertained? Let’s face it, when you’re being pulled across the water on a board or foilboard and only being powered the wind, it’s pretty gosh darn fun! Even falling or crashing back into the water can make you chuckle as you’re wiping out, and create some entertainment for those watching you. Just getting better is, by itself, satisfying/rewarding, which is first-level fun. Once you learn how to get up on the board, kiteboarding and wingfoiling both offer endless maneuvers and motions that create different feelings of enjoyable movement. (Imagine Jumping!) As you spend time getting better at performing different actions, you get to experience many different forms of fun!
2. Curiosity/Challenge/Accomplishment
These three elements in kitesurfing and wing foiling could be understood as one all encompassing concept. When first considering learning how to kiteboard or wing foil, there’s an inherent curiosity to understand how the activity works. Second, you’re challenged with understanding it from beginning of the lessons and throughout your training. Finally, where you’re seeing the results of being able to be up and kiting or winging around on the water, you have achieved the feeling of accomplishment. The more you understand, then more curious you become to go kitesurfing in other locations like in ocean waves or ride under the Golden Gate Bridge. Or, your curiosity may be in riding other kinds of boards, like a surfboard or foilboard for example.
3. Adventure
It’s obvious Kiteboarding/Wingfoiling are not your average sports. They’re not popular land-based sports like tennis or basketball, where there’s relatively no reliance on natural outdoor elements and the activity is confined to a court or designated space. With kitesurfing and wing foiling, riders are totally dependent on wind and water and have oftentimes a boundless area on water to enjoy and explore. This requires a developed concentration and acute sensitivity to feeling the changes in the wind and weather. It’s an adventure because we really don’t know how the session will go, but when everything works out we scored great conditions afterall, the feeling we get is euphoric!
4. Health/Exercise
Most people do some form of exercise, and much of that exercise is prescribed, meaning it’s not fun and is meant to keep a body in shape and away from unhealthy results later in life. Kitesurfing and WingFoiling are very healthy activities where one can get outside, move around, and develop muscle coordination in a low impact way. It is after all, only water you’re falling into. And the rush of adrenaline from an epic session or nailing a move is undeniably a healthy feeling!
5. Travel
Imagine all the places around the world where water and wind exist! Now imagine not only going there and seeing the sights, but being able to kite or foil the places you have dreamed about since you started learning. For many, adding a kiting or winging element to the trip is necessary motivation to get out and see a place you wouldn’t have gone to otherwise. Along with travel, who knows what other experiences you’ll have meeting people or just from getting out of the same at-home routine.
